Minutes of the Fall 2002 Ski Coaches Meeting
Eaglebrook School, Monday, November 4, 2002

1) Convened 7:00 p.m.

2) Introductions

3) Race Dates

There was some concern regarding the early race date, 1/8/03, as some schools would only have had one day on the snow as a team. Options discussed were:

1) Friday, 1/10/03 1:30 start
2) Monday, 1/13/03, 3:15 start
3) Wednesday, 1/8/03, 3:15 start

Coaches mentioned that it was unlikely or troublesome to get permission to miss some classes for either the Friday or Monday race. Wednesday, 1/8/03, seemed to be the date with the least logistical problems. For safety reasons, both the Varsity and JV/Junior race will start at the mid-station start.

4) Review team in the league

• Miss Hall's will race 1 JV team and 1 individual varsity racer
• Taft will not participate this year
• Coaches will notify Marc Dancer by December 15, 2002 with their team divisions

5) Race Day Procedures

• Course Maintenance - Coaches need to attend to the course whenever possible
  
• Report 1st run DQ's in a timely fashion
  
• Continue the use of radios for all race officials (the league has purchased their own)
  

6) Duty Assignments

• Coaches meeting before each race helped in the running of the race
  
• JV/JR Head Gatekeeper - Nancy Henderson (Charlemont)
  
• Many thanks to Melissa Wockley (Williston) for tour as Head Gatekeeper on the Varsity course
  
• Discussed change in the role of the head gatekeeper
  
• this position will rotate each week
  
• job will now include some course maintenance
  
• If a school has difficulty meeting their duty assignment obligation, they MUST get another adult as replacement
  
• Greg Leeds will produce the duty assignments for 2003
  

7) Review of By-Laws

• Revisions submitted by Greg Leeds (NMH)
  
• There was general agreement to the revisions
  
• Paul Putnam (Berkshire East) showed concern over the order of precedence regarding safety rules
  
  • MISL rules (which includes MIAA rules)
    
  • USSA
    
  • FIS
    
• Clarified helmet rule
  
  • Required for both slalom and giant slalom

8) Treasurer's Report

• Purchase of new radios for the league
  
• For 2002:
  
  • Dues - Trophies - Berkshire East Fee = $25
    
• For 2003:
  
  • Less Teams + higher fees = Higher Dues
    
  • Given what other sports have to pay for officiating, a modest increase in league dues is seems reasonable
